Hatto Zeidler: Nicolas de Pigage
Nicolas de Pigage (Lunéville 1723 – Schwetzingen 1796)
Nicolas de Pigage, architect and “Director of the Garden and Water Arts” at the court of Prince Elector Carl Theodor, had a bronze bust dedicated to him in a public space in 2023 on the occasion of his 300th birthday. Under the regency of Prince Elector Carl Theodor, the Schwetzingen Palace Gardens grew into a magnificent masterpiece of European garden design. The Lunéville-bornarchitect is to thank for the garden’s impressive design and decoration with rococo cabinets, sculptures and architecture. Hatto Zeidler portrayed Pigage in a realistic, expressive style. As a characteristic prop, he adopted the gigantic artist's hat from the only two known portraits of the court painter Anna Dorothea Therbusch (to be seen in the “Kurpfälzisches Museum”, Heidelberg)
