Description
The areas are floodplain landscapes shaped by the Rhine and consisting of old, silted-up river meanders. The nature reserve southwest of Brühl, established in 1984, consists of lakes and ponds, a reed belt, old floodplain forest and agriculturally used areas. Elector Carl Theodor von Schwetzingen expropriated the meadows as compensation areas for the palace gardens.
